The Instructors

Jill HarrisJill Harris
Jill Harris has been a leading Pilates instructor in San Francisco since 1996 and a Pilates studio owner since 2000. As a dancer, Jill was drawn to the benefits of Pilates and received her classical Pilates certification from Body Kinetics in San Francisco. During her first years of teaching, she garnered exposure to teachers who studied other Pilates approaches, including Physical Mind Institute, BASI and Fletcher Pilates, which assisted her in expanding her approach and practice. With a deeper understanding of Pilates, coupled with her background in dance, Jill created Informed Technique® and its custom equipment, the Informed Structure®. Informed Technique® is based on principles of Pilates, classical and modern dance and can only be performed on the custom Informed Structure® that Jill designed.*

For almost 20 years, Jill's client base has continued to stay loyal to her ever-evolving approach to movement and the beautiful studio enjoys a long-term following. In 2007, Jill authored and published the "5 Guide" to provide current and prospective clients with health tips to lead a long, healthy, injury-free life. Jill believes movement is a discipline that requires commitment, but has to always be fun. She keeps her clients interested in coming back by varying the studio's offerings and keeping conversations amusing and fresh. Not only does she continue to push them when they need it by incorporating classical Pilates with elements of personal training, and dance conditioning, Jill also offers her clients concierge services, insider information on restaurants, shopping and entertainment.

Jill HarrisKeri Scanlon
Keri Scanlon has an extensive dance background, primarily focused on ballet. She studied the Vaganova method of classical ballet in Pennsylvania under the direction of Michè le Zehner, John White and Magarita de Saá of the Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet. Additional dance training includes the Cecchetti method of ballet, modern, jazz, character, tap and ballroom.

Her onstage career began at a young age for a local company outside of Philadelphia and later was accepted into programs with the Boston Ballet and the San Francisco Ballet. Keri discovered Pilates after repeated back and hip injuries, which are all too common in the ballet world. Through Pilates, she found the power within to heal her own body and no longer requires "emergency visits" to the chiropractor to "fix" her. Compelled by the healing power of Pilates, Keri went on to complete her teacher training at Sanchez Street Studios under the expert direction of Carol LeMaitre and Sharon Gallagher

Keri graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from American University and taught ballet for several years at Ravel Dance Studio in Reston, Virginia. She moved to San Francisco in 1999, joined the team at Informed Body, and is dedicated to helping people of all backgrounds find the ability to move, understand their bodies and live healthy, pain-free lives. While Keri no longer performs, she can still be found in class at Alonzo King's LINES Ballet or ODC.

Jill HarrisSusan Tobiason
Susan Tobiason has spent over 20 years of study in Dance and has performed professionally - primarily Ballet and Contemporary, as well as Brazilian and Hip Hop. At age 4, Susan's ballet training began at the San Diego Ballet Company under the direction of Jacqueline Hepner, Principal of the American Ballet Theatre. She continued her training at the School for Creative & Performing Arts in San Diego, California, on Academic Scholarship with Stage 7 Dance Theater, and later, continued to train professionally with the Pennsylvania Ballet Theater. Susan also studied classical music (piano) for 6 years during her upbringing, which has inspired a great musical involvement in her creative process.

In 2008, Susan's Pilates training began with Jill Harris at Informed Body in San Francisco, and she continued with Carol LeMaitre and Sharon Gallagher at Pilates Education Lab in San Francisco. She is thrilled to be a part of Informed Technique®. and looks forward to teaching classes which fuse together all of her interests.
